Belén is from Jinotega, Nicaragua and is 17 years old. She has been a part of our Learning Center since we first started, nine years ago. She graduated from high school in December and is
our very first Adelante Serve-Study student in Nicaragua.
Since the beginning of this year, she has been studying intensely every morning and evening and teaching at our Learning Center in the afternoon. Belén was asked to share about her journey with Outreach360.
Here is what she wrote independently in English.
My name is Belén and I am an Outreach360 Adelante Serve-Study student in Nicaragua. I have studied English for nine years.
Ever since I was little, I always wanted to learn English, but my parents couldn’t afford private classes. That’s why when I learned about the Outreach360 Learning Center program I didn’t hesitate and decided to attend. Now, when I look back, I think that is the best decision I have ever made.
My journey with Outreach360 started back in 2011. I remember feeling excited on my first day at the Learning Center and by being surrounded by the kindest people I have ever met. They taught me the English alphabet and my first words in English.
Every day I was learning and having so much fun that the time went by really fast, and in an instant, I was in sixth grade having the best time at my local school. This is because when we had an English exam or English homework, my classmates wanted to be with me or wanted my help. Some of them even asked me for help during an exam, but in case my mom ever asks, I never helped them!
The years went by without my noticing. I laughed, learned, worked hard and sacrificed many things to be where I am today.
The Outreach360 Learning Center made me discover who I am. Now I can describe myself as a smart and talented person that is capable of reaching my goals. I am proud to say that I am the very first Adelante student in Nicaragua.
Being an Adelante student is preparing me for what is to come, like university and having a career. Also, I am now living my own story from the other side as I now teach the youngest group of students.
Now, I can’t even remember how my life was before Outreach360, and I don’t want to imagine a future without it. But all that I’m thankful for, wouldn’t have been possible without the help of all the donors and volunteers. You have influenced my life and the lives of many children.
